Households & Guilds

A household is an established group of members who share similiar interests, goals and values. In Connacht, we have several established households and we are excited and proud of the diversity that they bring to our group. These households have formed over the past several years and vary in size, however you do not have to be in a house to be a member of the Archduchy! This is just one way that our members build on their personas, their "medieval" families and their interest in the game.

The Barony of Silverhand:

Information coming soon!

La Famiglia di la Cinghiale Porpora: "The family of the Crimson Boar"

This family became established in the footsteps of the Santa Madre di Protezioni (sacred mother’s protectors) during the political turmoil of 15th century renaissance. The Santa Madre di Protezioni was a prominent and ruthless band of brigands who started their organization of crime as petty thieves and thugs, and turned a profit offering protection for local barons. For years this brotherhood, headed by Gabellotto Cozzo, was a relatively local band of organized brigands, but as with nearly all businesses, expansion was on the horizon to bring forth more profit, and more fame.

In a land overseas, the Empire of Adria had sat largely unexplored by the influence of the Italians. And it was to this Empire that Perado would be sent to expand the brotherhood’s power-base. Mizak Perado, the brotherhood’s Uomo di Fiducia, now a Gabellotto in his own right, made sail to the new lands and began to recruit members to his cause. He quickly found the peoples of this land impressionable, yet hearty and willing to band together to support a cause not unlike their own. Soon, their membership was weeded out, and the remaining members, whose loyalty was unquestionable, along with their nearly unparalleled willingness to become great, formed La Famiglia di la Cinghiale Porpora (Family of the Crimson Boar). House Arianedale:

The house of Arianedale is proudly affiliated with Clan Silverhand. We are members of the Adrian Empire, and the Duchy of Connacht. Ours is an Arts and Science household with an interest in learning new things. Our heraldry is four argent laurel leaves on a vert field. The lady of the household, at present, is Dame Reynalda Arianedale, and our membership is approximately 7 members. Our motto is celtic ruins and it translates simply as "Ever Learn." We demonstrate the cumulative wisdom of life learned from the living we have done. We nuture, foster, care and blanket our group with our knowledge. We share ourselves. In short, we are the learned mothers and teachers of the group. We continue our own learning through the interaction with our village and through the knowledge gained from research into the Arts and Science of the medieval era.

Phasiani lacus Manerium: "The manor of Pheasant Hollow"

Phasiani lacus Manerium in translation means Manor of Pheasant Hollow. This household is loyal to the Archduchy of Connacht and is headed by Lady Christiana Elizabeth Constable with a persona of a wealthy widow of a wealthy merchant from the Tudor era. Thy household currently has six members one of which heads a Connacht guild, and all members practice within the arts and sciences and most participate in archery. The household motto is “Lorem, dogmatizare et frui fruitus vitae illoruim in honore et usu partem” which is Latin for “To learn, teach, and to enjoy the fruits of life, to honor those and to share our experience.” Heraldry is currently is in a state of being registered with the Adrian Empire.

Guilds

Guilds are another way that members in Connacht can gather together to work on a shared passion or craft. Within the guild, there is a Guild Master / Guild Mistress that often excels at the art or craft of interest, and a collection of members at varying levels of skill. Guilds not only teach and educate regarding a craft, they also tend to follow a structured advancement system. It is quite common within Guilds to have multiple ranks or levels of achievement, paralleling a journeyman/apprentice relationship. Guilds are able to create and display their own heraldry, draft their own charters and determine their levels of advancement. If you are interested in joining a guild, or starting one, please contact us info@connacht.ca for more details.

Scribal Guild: "More than Words"

Several of Connacht's artisans gather together within the Scribal Guild to explore and celebrate the many creative elements of medieval manuscripts. They explore everything from the recreation of tools, mediums, and the styles of the period to engage in all aspects of this ancient art. Guild Mistress Melora organizes monthly gatherings for members to learn, teach and practice on solo and group projects. There are four levels of advancement (novice, apprentice, journeyman, master), and the purpose of the guild is to gain and share the knowledge and appreciation for the scribal arts, while striving to become masters in their own area of interest. Please check out the Scribal Guild's blog or email Melora at meghandesnoyers@hotmail.com for more information.

Woodcarvers Guild:

This guild is interested in revitalizing and reviving the ways of our forefathers in the manner in which they handled and worked wood. So many crafts are forgotten in the threads of time, that we specifically wish to bring up, and place in a written form this information that may otherwise be completely lost. The guild will study the craft of hand carving tools and the accruements of these tools. Our aim is to gain and share knowledge and appreciation of medieval woodcarving skills. We strive further to be able to pass on these techniques and skills to future members of the Adrian Empire, and to the guild, so that this craft does not become a memory of the past. Master Kasper will be sharing his knowledge as Guild Master and can be contacted at charlescaspersen@yahoo.com

The Vestiarium Guild

The Vestiarium Guild (translated from Latin meaning Clothiers Guild) shall strive to make historically accurate clothing from the period of 1066 to 1603 AD. This guild will exchange techniques and knowledge in the designing, pattern making, and the making of historical garments for one's persona, and social structure as dictated by the apparel laws of their era. The guild members shall be able to make period clothing using patterns drawn from research to draw their own clothing patterns which include undergarments, accessories, (ie. hats, garments, and over garments as per social class and era) and to sew the same. It is encouraged that all members of the Vestiarium Guild shall use as much as possible period fabric, and fibers to create their projects. Although we do not concentrate on the making of these items through drop spinning, spinning wheel, and or weaving, the guild will recognize these types of work for the making of clothing, but the main goal of the guild is to strive in the tailoring of clothing.

If you are interested in period clothing or have questions regarding the Vestiarium Guild please contact the Magister Guild, Christiana Elizabeth Constable, at pheasant01@yahoo.ca
